Yes, The Golf Daddy Simulator works with or without a ball.
How much space do I need?
Enough space to swing a golf club safely within your perimeter without damaging anything or hurting anyone. The simulator itself is a mat on the ground and will take up about the same width as your stance, the tripod will stand 5-6 feet in front of you holding your phone.
